Proposal
For the Photography, Land and Objects project I am going to run two photographic works at the same time. One side of my project will explore how the recession is affecting the landscape that surrounds me, and I will document this change by creating images of empty / desolate shops in towns and cities such as Truro, Newquay and St Austell. Bernd and Hilla Becher are a great source of inspiration, and I hope to produce these images in their style; uniform, organised and concise. The other half of my images will be of local Churches in my immediate area. It seems to me that Church has come to symbolize old fashioned ideas and values, and we live in a culture that doesn’t appreciate faith as we once did, and this has take its toll on the buildings that were once focal points of the local community. In my own village there is an old abandoned and desolate church, you can tell that it was once a beautiful building, but its now poor state is what has inspired me to undertake the classifying of these disappearing structures.
